Rencana: A Modern Display Font for Creative Branding

I was recently tasked with creating a brand identity for a small, locally-owned boutique that sells handmade skincare products. The client wanted something soft, approachable, and visually appealing to reflect their natural and eco-friendly ethos. As I opened my design board and started experimenting with typefaces, Rencana caught my eye right away.

Rencana is a modern and cute display font that immediately stood out with its clean curves and playful yet professional feel. It’s not overly whimsical like some script fonts, nor is it too minimalistic to feel cold. Its balance of charm and elegance made it the perfect starting point for this project.

A Font That Speaks to the Brand’s Personality

The first thing I noticed about Rencana was how well it matched the boutique’s vibe. The rounded edges and gentle serifs gave off a sense of warmth, while the overall structure felt contemporary enough for a modern audience. It wasn’t just a font—it was a visual representation of the brand’s personality.

I began by testing it on a few logo drafts. When paired with a minimalist sans serif font for supporting text, Rencana brought a nice contrast without overwhelming the design. It worked especially well in headlines and taglines, where it could shine without competing with other elements.

As I moved into packaging mockups, I saw how Rencana adapted beautifully to different surfaces—whether it was a label sticker or a product box. The font didn’t look cluttered, even at smaller sizes, which is crucial for branding materials that need to be legible from a distance.

Testing Rencana Across Different Design Elements

One of the things I love about Rencana is its versatility. I tested it across various brand assets to see how it performed in different contexts:

What surprised me was how well it held up in both digital and print formats. The file format compatibility and quality ensured that there were no issues with scaling or rendering, which is always a concern when working with display fonts.

Font Pairing and Stylistic Considerations

For the supporting text in the brand system, I opted for a clean sans serif font. This combination created a nice balance between the playful nature of Rencana and the clarity of the sans serif. It also helped establish a clear visual hierarchy, making the brand more approachable and professional at the same time.

I also experimented with using Rencana as an accent font in some collateral, such as special promotions or limited-edition packaging. In those cases, it added a unique flair without disrupting the overall brand consistency.

Another thing to consider when using Rencana is its multilingual support. Since the boutique plans to expand into new markets, having a font that works well across different languages is a big plus. It’s always good to check if the font includes alternates or ligatures that can enhance the design further.

Practical Tips for Using Rencana in Client Projects

If you’re considering using Rencana for your next project, here are a few tips based on my experience:

  1. Test It Early: Before committing to a full brand system, test Rencana on different materials and scales to ensure it works well in all contexts.
  2. Check Licensing: Make sure you understand the commercial font licensing terms, especially if you're designing for clients or selling merchandise.
  3. Pair Wisely: Experiment with different font pairings to find the best balance between style and readability.
  4. Use It Sparingly: While Rencana is great for headlines and accents, avoid overusing it in body text to maintain readability.
  5. Stay Consistent: Ensure that Rencana is used consistently across all brand materials to reinforce recognition and professionalism.

Overall, Rencana proved to be a valuable addition to the boutique’s brand identity. It helped convey the right tone and emotion, while also being practical for a wide range of applications. Whether you're working on logos, packaging, or social media content, this font has the potential to elevate your designs and make your brand stand out.
