Tendang: A Modern Display Font for Creative Projects

Opening a fresh brand board one morning, I was looking for something new to spark the design process. The project was for a boutique skincare brand—minimalist, elegant, and with a touch of whimsy. I needed a font that could balance playfulness with professionalism. That’s when I stumbled upon Tendang.

Tendang is a modern and cute display font, ideal for posters, logos, magazines, book covers, banners, and more. Its clean lines and soft curves immediately caught my eye. It felt like the perfect match for a brand that wanted to feel approachable yet refined.

A Playful Yet Professional Typeface

What makes Tendang stand out is its unique blend of cuteness and sophistication. The letterforms are slightly rounded but not overly so, giving it a friendly vibe without sacrificing elegance. This makes it an excellent choice for branding projects that aim to be both inviting and polished.

I tested Tendang on a logo concept for the skincare brand. The result was stunning. The font added just the right amount of character to the brand name without overwhelming the overall design. It worked well in both color and black-and-white variations, showing versatility in application.

Compared to other display fonts I’ve used, Tendang feels more balanced. It doesn’t lean too heavily into either the playful or the formal side, which gives it a broader range of use cases. Whether it's for a café visual refresh or a handmade shop branding, Tendang adapts gracefully.

Performance Across Branding Applications

As part of the brand identity system, I applied Tendang across various touchpoints. On packaging mockups, it looked great on product labels and outer boxes. The font’s legibility at different sizes made it easy to use for both large headlines and smaller text elements.

In social media graphics, Tendang performed exceptionally well. It added a nice visual hierarchy to Instagram posts and Facebook ads, making key messages pop while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic. For web design, I placed it on a homepage hero section and found that it complemented the overall layout beautifully.

Even on business cards and printed materials, Tendang held up. It didn’t look cramped or cluttered, which is a common issue with some display fonts when scaled down. This makes it a reliable option for printed collateral where clarity is essential.

Font Pairing and Stylistic Considerations

Tendang pairs well with a variety of typefaces. For a more professional look, I paired it with a clean sans-serif font for body text. The contrast between the two created a harmonious visual balance, especially useful in editorial design or magazine layouts.

When working with script or handwritten fonts, Tendang served as a great anchor. It provided structure without competing with the more decorative elements. This makes it ideal for use in creative studio identities or promotional materials that require a mix of styles.

It’s worth noting that Tendang is best suited as a display font rather than for long-form body text. While it can be used for short phrases or headlines, it may not be the best choice for extended reading due to its stylized nature. This limitation should be considered when planning content-heavy projects.

Practical Tips for Using Tendang

If you're considering using Tendang in your next project, take time to test it in real-world scenarios. Apply it to a brand board, packaging mockup, or website header to see how it performs under different conditions. Testing ensures that the font aligns with your brand’s personality and meets functional requirements.

Also, remember to check commercial font licensing before incorporating Tendang into client work, brand identity, packaging, templates, merchandise, websites, digital products, or print-on-demand items. Ensuring proper licensing protects both you and your clients from potential legal issues.

Tendang is available as a freebie, which makes it accessible for designers and creators who want to experiment without financial barriers. However, always review the included styles, alternates, ligatures, swashes, weights, multilingual support, and file formats to ensure they meet your specific needs.

Whether you're designing a logo, crafting a poster, or updating a website, Tendang offers a versatile and charming solution. Its modern appeal and wide range of applications make it a valuable addition to any designer’s toolkit.
